Julian "Earl" Tharpe was born 28 March, 1937 in the quiet little southern town of Skipperville, Albama. Little did they know he was gonna be heard the world over!
All of Julian's natural abilities and musical genius led to his induction into The International Steel Guitar Hall of Fame the summer of 2008. His plaque reads:
"Julian Tharpe - Solo Artist, Record Producer, Songwriter, Band Leader, and Master of the 14 string Steel Guitar covering a full 3 Octaves in the open position. He was one of the first Steel guitar players to perfect the "Speed Picking" style with extreme dexterity and executing the most difficult of musical passages with ease- which still remains unequaled to this day. The International Steel Guitar Convention Board 2008."
If you would like to hear Julian's Musical Genius just listen to his recordings titled: "Southern Fried Steel Guitar," "Take Your Pick," "The JetAge," "Deep Feeling," or "12 + 14 = Country Jazz."
Julian E. Tharpe - Loving Father, Grandfather, Brother, and a Dear Friend to many. Pure Genius! We miss you Julian!
